Mirit as a Parent
I believe in possibilities. When I look at my three amazing daughters, I see infinite futures. My 7-year-old daughter once said to me: “I want to be so many things at once- a bus driver because I like to go to a lot of places, a dancer because it is fun to perform, a scientist because I’d get to learn lots of science, a singer because people like to hear my voice,”… Lyrie went on and on. I was amazed. I was so thrilled that she grasped this concept of possibilities.
As a parent I strive to give my children the skills to create all these possibilities for themselves and to nurture their abilities to fiercely pursue them.
Mirit as an Individual
As an individual, I also strive to nurture and use these skills for myself so I can live my life according to my deepest values. Working as an educator and being a mom has blessed me with endless rewards.
Mirit’s Path to Becoming a Life Coach & Parent Coach
About four years ago, while I was still working as an elementary school teacher, I found myself feeling frustrated by what I witnessed in the children around me: children were limiting themselves at the beginning of their lives. I was so unsettled by the recurring proclamations I heard: “I can’t do this!” “I’ll get it wrong!” “I’m a failure!” and all sorts of corrosive self-perceptions.
I felt the urgent need to re-route children’s negative self-definitions and to take action to encourage perceptions that would feed lives of confidence, self-esteem, joy and fulfillment. While I first realized this negative self-identification in young children, very soon after I became aware of this habit in adolescents, in adults, and then of course, in myself too.
The realization of such destructive attitudes in myself became the catalyst for action. My move was to find a vehicle; an approach, through which to transform my limiting ways of thinking into affirmative, fruitful ones. I found the ability to do this through the unique capacities of Coaching, fused with Neuro-Linguistic Programming (NLP) techniques. My belief in the power of these approaches combined led me to change my career completely. Now, as a Life Coach, I see only possibilities and change.
Mirit’s Motto & Vision: ”Where there is Vision there is Hope.”
This is my motto for life. I believe in the ability of each one of us to live our own personal vision now. Being a life coach and an NLP Practitioner is my way to make it happen. My approaches as a life coach are based on the work of Milton Erickson – an American psychiatrist who specialized in medical hypnosis and family therapy. Erickson is noted for his perspective of the unconscious mind as creative and solution generating. He is also noted for influencing Brief Therapy, Strategic Family Therapy, Family systems Therapy, Solution Brief Therapy and Neuro Linguistic Programming.
The Erickson Principals
The following five Erickson principals inform and propel my perception of people. In my work and in life I hold these presuppositions regarding all people (adults and children).
- People are okay, they are not broken and don’t need to be fixed
- People have all the resources they need
- Behind every behavior there is a positive intention
- Change is inevitable
- People make the best choice available to them at a specific time. Holding this principle about yourself leads to self acceptance, self forgiveness and facilitating change and better choices
- Approaching life from the perspective of these unique yet simple principles can change lives.
